What does a Coach do?

Updated: Aug 18, 2022

Have you ever wondered what does a Coach do and what is the difference between coaching and therapy?

If the answer is yes, then keep reading.

Coaching is goal-focused. It is a journey where Coach and Client firstly discuss and agree on what are the Client’s goals. Both Coach and Client should be responsible and committed.

The Coach will help the Client make clarity on what they would like to achieve and will provide them with strategies and tools they would be able to refer to once the sessions will come to an end.

The Coach doesn’t give any advice but supports and guides the Client to reflect on their struggles and what their ultimate goal is.

Coaching is about asking questions to help the Client figure out the answers themselves and to find their own solutions.

Coaching might look at the past and at the Client’s memories or fears to uncover what is preventing them to achieve their goals but it is more future-focused and action-focused.

Even though a Coach can still support a Client who is experiencing mental health issues or emotional traumas, in these cases it is advised to see a therapist, too.
